The Bedroom

This room is furnished almost entirely in the Victorian style. The mahogany chest of drawers of that period was presented by Mrs Lizzie Wolhuter, the mahogany linen press by Mr F Preiss and the standing mirror on the small table is a particularly fine piece of Victorian workmanship. The commode is late Victorian and the small washstand belonged to the Barry family as did the hip bath. The yellow-wood and stinkwood bed probably dates to the early 1800's and was donated by Miss L van Eeden. The bedroom also holds small items of interest such as curling tongs, button hooks, hat pins, jug and basin and other bric-a-brac.

Note the well-used pair of children's shoes, ladies' high-buttoned boots as well the collection of large dolls, part of the museum's collection of toys of yesteryear.
