Much of the museum's
lace collection is now on permanent display in the cupboards in this
room.
A separate catalogue is available from the office for those who wish
to identify the different types and to learn how the collection came
about. It is a unique collection that we are proud to have in our possession.
You may have seen old lace in museums and certain speciality textile
stores. If you live near, or are a tourist in town taking advantage
of one of our local hotel
special offers please don't miss a visit to us. The lace collection
is but one of the great things to see here.
The two lace pillows (English Collection) have examples of bobbin lace
set out on them by Mr Nic Croeser of Wynberg and Mr Bob Leach now living
in Gauteng.
The invalid’s bed was presented by Mr Hamilton Barry and is a tribute
to Victorian ingenuity. It can be raised to a sitting position on the
one end and the foot end can also be raised by means of a crank handle.
